Cruelty-Free Perfume FAQs

What does it mean cruelty-free?

Once you get cruelty-free products, that preferably means the company does not trial its goods or constituents on animals.

Are vegan and cruelty-free the same?

Usually, they come together, but not necessarily. A formula is considered vegan if it doesn’t contain any animal-derived ingredients (similar to your favorite vegan food dishes). Honey, beeswax, keratin, collagen, glycerin, and squalane are all common skincare ingredients sourced from animals, making them a no-go when it comes to vegan skincare.

To be cruelty-free, a product must not have been tested on animals during any stage of the development process – from product formulation to the finished result.

Is Chanel cruelty-free?

Chanel is NOT Cruelty-free. Chanel Beauty sells its products in stores in mainland China where animal testing is mandatory for most imported cosmetics. As a result, Chanel pays and allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law.

Are Gucci perfumes cruelty-free?

No Gucci perfume is not cruelty-free. It either tests ingredients and products on animals personally, works with suppliers who do and sells products in markets where animal testing could occur by law.

Is Dior perfume cruelty-free?

Dior is NOT Cruelty-Free. Dior engages in animal testing by allowing its products to be animal-tested.

What makes perfume not cruelty-free?

Barely any of the big names in perfume are considered cruelty free, and traditionally a lot of perfumes use animal secretions to enhance the longevity of the fragrance.
Plenty of perfumes also contain animal-derived musk (mostly from deer or beavers), and these ingredients are never clearly labeled.

Which perfume brands are cruelty-free?

The Body Shop, Lush, Floral Street, Eden, Elementary, Dolma, Gallivant, Flaya, Ravenscourt Apothecary, Dedcool, Superdrug (own brand). Note, all of these brands have vegan products, but not all products are guaranteed to be vegan (always check yourself).
